The title of the lecture is a paraphrase of Joseph Kerman’s book Concerto Conversations from 1999, in which main organizaion principles for the concerto in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries are discussed. The talk will be dealing with new aesthetic ideas embodied in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries concertos, especially in instrumental concertos penned by Polish composers, and it speaks about the memory of genre, which determines their generic categorization.
