Professor Miller’s research focuses on American constitutional law, comparative law theory and methods, the rule of law, and German law and legal culture. His work can be found here. He is the founder and long-serving editor-in-chief of the German Law Journal. Miller has had a number of distinct work and research experiences in Germany, including service as a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at the German Federal Constitutional Court and a two-year tenure as Head of the Max Planck Law Network. 

He has recently turned his attention to the theory of the rule of law. He founded and leads the Rule of Law Academy, an international program for students from around the world. Professor Miller is a two-time recipient of a Fulbright Senior Research Award, and in 2021 he was awarded a Humboldt Senior Research Prize in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of comparative law and to transatlantic relations.
