Register: Generating new research ideas and how to enjoy it
Description:
In most of your research life, you conduct so-called day science: you test hypotheses by collecting and analysing data in a structured and standardised manner. But where do the ideas for your hypotheses come from? They emerge from the realm of night science, the often overlooked yet essential part of scientific work.
In this workshop, we will engage in several exercises developed by Itai Yanai and Martin Lercher, who spearheaded the concept of night science. These exercises are designed to help you develop unconventional ideas, hypotheses, and theories for your research. And most importantly, they are fun!
The workshop is aimed at curious researchers who seek inspiration, fresh ideas, and new perspectives on their field, or who simply want to embrace the creative side of science.
Please note that this workshop is highly interactive and includes pair exercises in breakout rooms. Participation requires a working camera, a good microphone, a stable internet connection, and a quiet space.
About the presenters: Prof. Dr. Martin Bleichner works in translational psychology at the University of Oldenburg. Dr. Daniel Hölle works in science communication at the European Science Communication Institute. They regularly deliver night science workshops and are excited to bring this creative approach to curious minds.
