In cooperation with the Department of Cultural
Anthropology and the Department of History, the
Department of American Studies is pleased to announce
an interdisciplinary Visual Culture Symposium. The
event will feature the academic research and artistic
work of a variety of local and international scholars and
artists.
This interdisciplinary research symposium will provide
an opportunity for contemporary critical debates about
visual culture/s, encouraging dynamic thought on the
‘visual’ from a range of different perspectives and
across diverse geographical locations. How does visual
culture influence everyday cultural practice? Which
political or social thoughts are negotiated by means of
visual representations?
Contributors will give lively 30 min. papers and engage
in a discussion on how visual cultures are positioned in
their fields of research.
While we welcome traditional academic papers, we also
encourage creative methods of delivery that may include
performance and visual arts approaches.
