Posters will be presented personally by students completing the seminar “Music Psychology”, which is taught by Richard Parncutt in the 5th semester of Graz’s “Musikologie” curriculum. They will address questions such as: Can music help you get rid of a bad mood? How does background music affect car driving? What factors produce peak experiences in music? Can background music influence the perceived plot of a film? Is the perception of consonance and dissonance innate or learned? Does mental practice improve motor control in music performance? Do we naturally synchronize our body movements to musical rhythm? What causes earworms? Can music therapy reduce anxiety and depression in dementia patients? Can musical practice accelerate children’s (native) language acquisition? Is the perception of musical pitch and contour based on prosody in speech?
