Minisymposium on current expertise in mathematics education
As part of the project “Strengthening Teaching through Mathematics Education” at the University of Graz, a wide range of continuing professional development courses on various aspects of mathematics education are offered during the 2025/26 academic year. This symposium marks the conclusion of this series of events.
On 1 July 2026 (9.30 am–2.30 pm), attitudes towards mathematics (and mathematics education) in higher education—from the perspectives of both learners and teachers—will be examined and explored from a multi-perspective approach. In particular, the focus will be on the relevance of these attitudes and their influence on opportunities for teaching mathematics at university level. The experts invited to partake in the discussion come from both a background of mathematics as well as mathematics education. The programme includes two keynote lectures by Pietro Di Martino (University of Pisa) and Angelika Bikner-Ahsbahs & Ingolf Schäfer (University of Bremen), as well as three plenary lectures by Lara Gildehaus (University of Klagenfurt), Andrea Karner (University of Teacher Education Styria) and Wes Maciejewski (Athabasca University), followed by a round-table discussion. For more detailed information on the panel, please refer to these slides. Finally, there will be an opportunity for informal discussion with the experts and amongst yourselves over food and refreshments. The mini-symposium will be held in English.
Attendance at the mini-symposium is free of charge and will count towards your continuing professional development (e.g. as part of your QV).
