Emile Argand Conference

The Alpine workshop is held every two years to further interdisciplinary research on Alpine-type orogens. The 11th edition of this workshop will be hosted in Schladming (Austria), located in the central area of the Eastern Alps, at the boundary of the Central Austroalpine basement units and the Upper Austroalpine cover units of the Northern Calcareous Alps, close to the Penninic and Subpenninic units within the Tauern Window, and directly on a major strike-slip fault documenting orogen-parallel escape tectonics. This location therefore represents an ideal site to discuss the results of different plate tectonic processes during Alpine orogeny. Its nearness to the Carpathians, Dinarides and the Pannonian Basin is predestined to link the tectonic evolution of apparently displaced segments of the Alpine orogen.
