About the study programme

Translation at the University of Graz

During your studies, you choose one of four tracks:
"Conference Interpreting", "Translation, Migration, and Inclusive Communication", "Translation and Communicative AI", or "Multilingual Communication and Translation Policy." Depending on the track, you will study with two or three working languages. You will deepen your translation skills in specific modes of interpreting and translating using current technologies, and you will develop advanced knowledge in translation studies to critically reflect on and research translation practices.

The Doctoral Programme of Philosophy allows you to broaden your research interests further and to perfect your methodological skills. You will work independently to investigate academic questions and contribute to the development of knowledge and innovation in your subject area.

Career prospects

Preparation for a wide range of career paths

As a graduate you will be able to work as a translator for the courts, public authorities and administrative bodies, or in cultural and academic organisations. Graduates also go on to careers in research and teaching at universities and non-university institutions, or in the media, business and technology, or as literary translators.

Note on registration

To begin the Master's program, you must have completed a subject-relevant bachelor's programme. If you did not complete this degree at the University of Graz, you will need to submit an application for admission to the Master's program. At the time of admission, you must already provide proof of at least C1 level proficiency in all of your working languages.
