A distinctive feature of this master’s programme is that it prepares you for many different fields of work – both in the academic world and in practical roles. You learn to analyse questions, concepts and problems in the field of inclusive education for a range of age groups, and also to devise practical solutions.
Interests that are a good basis for this study programme
If you are interested in theories and concepts of inclusive education, special education and psychology, and would like to carry out both quantitative and qualitative research, this is the right programme for you. You should also enjoy working with marginalised people and engaging actively with the education and training needs of a wide range of individuals. For admission to the master’s programme you must have already completed a first degree in a relevant subject area.
Inclusive Education at the University of Graz
The core research areas are inclusion and its implementation in education and training, identification (diagnosis) of developmental and behavioural disorders, and concepts for prevention and intervention with regard to special educational and training needs.
You can pursue your research interests still further and perfect your methodological expertise, with either a humanities focus or an interdisciplinary approach, through the Doctoral Programme of Philosophy - Faculty of Environmental and Regional Sciences and Education. You will work independently to investigate academic questions and contribute to the development of knowledge and innovation in your subject area.
Preparation for a wide range of career paths
As a graduate of this master’s programme you will have many career options in areas needing comprehensive pedagogical understanding for the practical implementation of inclusive approaches. These include working with people with disabilities or mental illness, for instance in school settings or clinical contexts, or in the prevention of challenging behaviour. There are also potential career options in the field of early childhood education, the organisation and management of support and childcare facilities, and many other aspects of inclusive education.
