You have a basic interest in music in all its various cultural contexts. Foreignlanguage skills and a basic knowledge of general music theory and European musical notation are also an advantage.
Musicology at the University of Graz
Throughout this study programme, you will tackle ethnomusicology, jazz and popular music, music through the ages, the aesthetics of music, music psychology and acoustics. The cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz opens up a very wide range of future options for continuing your education.
Master’s programme in Musicology
The master’s programme in Musicology builds directly on the bachelor’s programme, broadening and developing the knowledge and skills already acquired. At the University of Graz you also have the option of interdisciplinary master’s programmes and joint programmes, allowing further scope for individualised and specialised learning.
Preparation for a wide range of career paths
Most graduates enter the cultural, communications or media professions. These include working in the culture industry, management, administration and policy, with music collections and at music-related documentation institutions (libraries, archives, museums, etc.), in theatres or the media, and teaching at conservatoires and other similar teaching establishments.
