Arnold Hanslmeiers neues Bilderbuch erklärt Phänomene des Universums für Groß und Klein

Was passiert bei einer Sonnenfinsternis und was ist ein schwarzes Loch? Antworten auf diese und viele andere Fragen aus den Weiten des Weltalls gibt ein neues Bilderbuch, verfasst von Astrophysiker Univ.-Prof. Dr. Arnold Hanslmeier und illustriert von Karin Sorko. Unter dem Titel „Der Tag, an dem es dunkel wurde – When the day grew dark“ erzählt es auf Deutsch und Englisch die Geschichte von zwei neugierigen Nilpferdchen, die einen verrückten Professor aufsuchen und mit ihm durch sein Teleskop eine Sonnenfinsternis erleben. Der begeisterte Astronom weiht sie ein in die Vorgänge auf dem heißen Stern und erklärt ihnen, wie diese das Leben auf der Erde bestimmen. Darüber hinaus erfahren seine Zuhörer noch jede Menge Wissenswertes über andere Phänomene des Universums.

 

Das Buch ist geschrieben für Kinder ab vier Jahren, beinhaltet aber viele Informationen, die für Jungendliche und Erwachsene gleichermaßen interessant und lehrreich sind. Ergänzend bietet es Anleitungen zu einfachen Experimenten, um die erklärten Phänomene anschaulich und damit besser verständlich zu machen. „Das Buch eignet sich auch als Lesestoff für die Schule“, so der Autor Arnold Hanslmeier, der immer schon ein Kinderbuch schreiben wollte. „Es soll Lust auf Sonne, Mond und Sterne machen und zeigen, wie ,cool‘ Naturwissenschaft sein kann.“

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
