Ausgezeichnete Jungforscherin

Desiree Pressnitz wurde mit dem von Christian Wandrey (2.v.r.) gestifteten Biotechnologie-Preis ausgezeichnet.

Die Chemikerin Desiree Pressnitz erhielt für ihre Masterarbeit den "Christian Wandrey Preis"

Das Forschungsgebiet von Desiree Pressnitz ist die Biokatalyse. Ziel dieser Wissenschaft ist es, Enzyme aus der Natur zur Beschleunigung von chemischen Reaktionen einzusetzen – umweltschonend und effizient. In ihrer Masterarbeit hat die Jungforscherin omega-Transaminasen als Biokatalysatoren verwendet, um Substanzen herzustellen die zur Produktion von Pharmazeutika – im Speziellen von Labetalol zur Behandlung von Bluthochdruck – dienen. Dafür erhielt Pressnitz am 5. Oktober 2012 im Forschungszentrum Jülich/Deutschland den "Christian Wandrey Preis".

 

Die mit 2.500 Euro dotierte Auszeichnung wurde vom Biotechnologen Prof. Christian Wandrey gestiftet, der von 1979 bis 2008 das damalige Institut für Biotechnologie-2 des Forschungszentrums Jülich leitete. Sein besonderes Anliegen ist die nachhaltige Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses in der Biotechnologie. Vergeben wird der Preis durch den Förderverein für eine exzellente Diplom- oder Masterarbeit, die an einer deutschsprachigen Universität oder technischen Hochschule erstellt wurde. Gewünscht wird neben einer herausragenden wissenschaftlichen Qualität auch ein besonderer Anwendungsbezug der Ergebnisse.

 

Derzeit arbeitet Desiree Pressnitz am Institut für Chemie der Uni Graz an ihrer Dissertation, betreut von Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kroutil und finanziert über das Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology (ACIB) in Graz, an dem auch die Karl-Franzens-Universität beteiligt ist.
