Festschrift für Assyriologen und Althistoriker Hannes D. Galter

Nicht nur auf der Kino-Leinwand steht dank einer Neuverfilmung der Orient-Express derzeit im Mittelpunkt des Interesses. „Zwischen Karawane und Orientexpress – Streifzüge durch Jahrtausende orientalischer Geschichte und Kultur“ titelt jener Band, der zu Ehren von Universitätsdozent Dr. Hannes D. Galter veröffentlicht und dem Assyriologen und Althistoriker am 10. November 2017 im Meerscheinschlössl feierlich überreicht wurde. 20 Beiträge hat Herausgeber Historiker Ass.-Prof. Dr. Johannes Gießauf für die Festschrift zusammengetragen.

Einzigartig nicht nur die Sammlung der wissenschaftlichen Artikel, sondern auch der Anlass der Publikation: Hannes D. Galter feierte nämlich anstatt eines „runden“ seinen 63. Geburtstag. Dazu gratulierten dem Wissenschafter sowie Direktor der Urania für Steiermark mehr als 100 Gäste, darunter Urania-Vizepräsident Univ.-Prof. Dr. Arnold Hanslmeier, Haschem Ghassempur von der Iranisch-Österreichischen Kulturinitiative, Urania-Präsident Univ.-Prof. Dr. Josef Smolle, Gemeinderat Georg Topf sowie Forschungs-Vizerektor Univ.-Prof. Dr. Peter Scherrer. Den Festakt krönte ein launiger Festvortrag des Althistorikers Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Klaus Tausend zu hypothetischen Lesevarianten einer Linear-B-Inschrift.

“HeinrichBiCool”: University of Graz demonstrates the effects of green facades and roofs

The University of Graz has launched a pioneering project at the University Centre for Theology. Its name, “HeinrichBiCool”, says it all: a comprehensive system of green facades and roof will cool the building at Heinrichstraße 80 during the summer. At the same time, this will create a new habitat for plants and animals, helping to increase biodiversity. The accompanying monitoring programme will provide detailed data on the impact of the measures on indoor climate, energy consumption and biodiversity. The findings will lay a scientifically sound foundation for further projects aimed at making cities sustainable, climate-resilient and liveable. The partners in this project, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), are AEE INTEC – Institute for Sustainable Technologies, Technisches Büro Siegfried Stark, the landscape architecture and urban planning firm “studio boden”, and Ökoteam Graz.
