Grüne Chemie für den blauen Planeten: 300 junge ForscherInnen bei der SommerKinderUni Graz

Ganz wie die Großen forschten heuer die kleinen Studierenden der SommerKinderUni in den Labors der Universität Graz. „Grüne Chemie für den blauen Planeten“ lautete das Motto eines der insgesamt 25 Wissenschafts-Workshops. Dabei konnten die Kinder und Jugendlichen am Institut für Chemie experimentieren und etwa Fragen „Wie säubert man schmutziges Wasser?“ beantworten. Unter wissenschaftlicher Begleitung von Katharina Fürpaß und Mario Trummer arbeiteten die „NachwuchsforscherInnen“ mit Gasen, Flüssigkeiten und festen Stoffen.

Insgesamt 300 Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter zwischen acht und 14 Jahren „studierten“ vom 12. Juli bis 6. August an den Universitäten und Hochschulen der steirischen Landeshauptstadt. Nach einem Jahr pandemiebedingter Pause mit ganz besonders großer Begeisterung.
Vormittags standen spannende Wissenschaftsworkshops und Exkursionen auf dem Programm, nachmittags – nach der Stärkung in der Mensa – ein abwechslungsreiches Sportangebot am Universitätssportzentrum.

Die KinderUniGraz besteht seit 2004 und ist eine Kooperation des Bundesministeriums für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung, der Stadt Graz sowie der acht Grazer Universitäten und Hochschulen.

The paper was published today in the scientific journal Nature Communications.

Chemical Christmas show at the University of Graz: An explosive evening at the Schauspielh

At the beginning of December, the University of Graz transformed the theater into a laboratory: as part of “Chemical Life,” teacher training students staged a chemical Christmas show for Styrian school classes—complete with ethanol rockets, nitrogen snow, and glowing effects. An evening designed to inspire interest in studying chemistry.

Train by train: Koralm railway accelerates exchange between the Universities

Lectures at the University of Klagenfurt in the morning, seminars at the University of Graz in the afternoon: Austria's longest tunnel and a journey time of around 45 minutes make it easy. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.
