Passing your A-levels marks the end of an important chapter in your life. But what comes next? With over 100 degree programmes, the University of Graz offers a huge range of exciting courses. Why not have a look: Course catalogue.
For courses that have no additional admission criteria, the online application opens in mid-June – for all graduates with an Austrian Matura or a comparable EU/EEA qualification.
The following are required for the online application:
- A scan of your Matura certificate
- Official photo ID
- For anyone transferring to the University of Graz from another university: an additional academic transcript and, if applicable, a certificate of completion
The online application is open until the beginning of September. This deadline is sufficient for the majority of degree programmes.
Additional examination
However, some programmes are particularly popular or require specific prior knowledge and qualifications. These have additional admission criteria or aptitude tests.
Entrance exams are required for the following courses:
- Bachelor’s programmes
- Biology
- Molecular Biology
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Psychology
- Diploma programme in Law
- Master’s programmes
- Psychology
- Psychotherapy

There are also different entry restrictions for a further group of degree programmes.
- For anyone wishing to study teacher training: The general admission procedure is your first step! Registration for this is open until 13 May 2026 (12:00). The exams will take place between 22 and 26 June. More information: Admission to Teacher Training
- For Sports and Exercise Sciences, you need either a sports-focused school-leaving certificate with a grade of “Very Good” or “Good”, or a supplementary examination. The school-leaving certificate must be submitted by 15 July 2026 at the latest. The supplementary examinations for those without a sports-focused school-leaving certificate take place in September. - Anyone wishing to study a language must take a placement test at the start of the first semester – this allows us to ensure that your language level is suitable for the course.
