Sichtbare Würdigung

Christine Touaillon war die erste habilitierte Germanistin Österreichs. Ihre Würdigungstafel hängt nun wieder im Hauptgebäude.

Christine Touaillon war die erste habilitierte Germanistin Österreichs. Ihre Würdigungstafel hängt nun wieder im Hauptgebäude.

Sie war eine Pionierin der deutschen Literaturwissenschaft - als erste Germanistin im deutschen Sprachraum setzte sie sich zum Beispiel wissenschaftlich mit Kinderliteratur auseinander- , promovierte 1905 an der Karl-Franzens-Universität zur Doktorin der Philosophie, bemühte sich in Graz aber vergeblich um eine Habilitation.

 

"Während ihr hier bewusst Steine in den Weg gelegt wurden, konnte Touaillon 1921 in Wien die Venia Legendi als Privatdozentin für neuere deutsche Literatur erlangen. Sie war damit die erste habilitierte Germanistin in Österreich", erklärt Ilse Wieser, Referentin der Koordinationsstelle für Geschlechterstudien, Frauenforschung und Frauenförderung der Uni Graz.

 

Um auf Touaillons Leistungen aufmerksam zu machen, wurde im Rahmen der WOMENT!-Initiative des Kulturhauptstadtjahres 2003 eine Würdigungstafel im Parterre des Hauptgebäudes der Uni Graz, beim linken Treppenaufgang in den ersten Stock, angebracht. Diese musste nun einer Renovierung unterzogen werden. Seit Kurzem hängt die farbenfrohe Tafel aber wieder und macht auf diese Weise die Geschichte der Germanistin sichtbar.

 

Am 8. März 2013, dem internationalen Frauentag, wird die Würdigungstafel eine der Stationen des historischen "FrauenStadtSpaziergangs" des Frauenservice sein.
