Das Symposium aus dem Profilbereich Smart Regulation am 1. Juli bespricht das Thema "Quick Data"

Im Profilbereich Smart Regulation forscht die Uni Graz an Standards für datenbasierte Living Labs. Am 1. Juli untersucht ein interdisziplinäres Symposium den Einfluss von Echtzeit-Daten

Der Mensch und die Technik. Dieses Zusammenspiel ist für intelligente Energiesysteme zentral. Wenn VerbraucherInnen mithelfen, Daten zu sammeln, können vernetzte Systeme den Energieverbrauch in Wohn- oder Bürogebäuden sofort sichtbar machen. „Echtzeitdaten sind sehr effektiv, um das Nutzungsverhalten von VerbraucherInnen zu steuern“, sagt Rechtswissenschafter Matthias Wendland. Gemeinsam mit Psychologin Katja Corcoran arbeitet der Experte für Rechtsfragen der Künstlichen Intelligenz im Profilbereich Smart Regulation an einem Konzept für ein sogenanntes Living Lab, ein Reallabor, zur nachhaltigen Energienutzung, das maschinelle Lernverfahren nutzt. „Im Living Lab werden NutzerInnen selbst Teil des Prozesses. Durch die Sichtbarkeit der Echtzeit-Daten werden sie zum Energiesparen animiert“, weiß Wendland. Der Rechtsexperte spricht in diesem Zusammenhang auch von „Quick Data“ – also Daten, die schnell verfügbar und entscheidungsrelevant sind.

Diese Echtzeit-Daten beeinflussen nicht nur die Forschung, sondern vor allem auch wirtschaftliche und politische Prozesse. „Viele strategische Entscheidungen werden heute auf Basis von schnellen Daten getroffen – beispielsweise in der Corona-Krise. Wenn aufgrund von Quick Data Fakten geschaffen werden, die nicht mehr revidierbar sind, später aber andere Daten zu gegenteiligen Handlungsempfehlungen führen, wird es problematisch“, so der Uni-Graz-Forscher.

Vor welche Herausforderungen „Quick Data“ Wissenschaft, Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft stellt, untersucht das Smart-Regulation-Symposium am 1. Juli 2022. „Quick Data ist ein Querschnittsthema, das alle Wissenschaftsdisziplinen betrifft und nur interdisziplinär bearbeitet werden kann“, sagt Tagungsleiter Wendland. Daher diskutieren internationale und nationale ExpertInnen das Thema in mehreren Fachvorträgen aus unterschiedlichen, interdisziplinären Perspektiven.

Chemical Christmas show at the University of Graz: An explosive evening at the Schauspielh

At the beginning of December, the University of Graz transformed the theater into a laboratory: as part of “Chemical Life,” teacher training students staged a chemical Christmas show for Styrian school classes—complete with ethanol rockets, nitrogen snow, and glowing effects. An evening designed to inspire interest in studying chemistry.

Train by train: Koralm railway accelerates exchange between the Universities

Lectures at the University of Klagenfurt in the morning, seminars at the University of Graz in the afternoon: Austria's longest tunnel and a journey time of around 45 minutes make it easy. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.
