Roboter lernen die Sprache der Tiere

Startschuss für die Leitung des bisher größten EU Forschungsprojektes an der Uni Graz

Das Artifical Life Laboratory an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz koordiniert seit Mitte Februar 2013 das mit sechs Millionen Euro budgetierte internationale EU-Forschungsprojekt „Animal and robot Societies Self-organise and Integrate by Social Interaction“ – kurz ASSISI. Ziel des bislang größten EU-Projektes an der Uni Graz ist es, eine Kommunikation zwischen Tieren und Robotern möglich zu machen. Dieser völlig neue Ansatz die Sprache der Tiere zu verstehen, erfolgt auf der Basis evolutionärer Algorithmen. Diese werden erstmals eine Verbindung zwischen der Tier- und der Maschinengesellschaft herstellen.

Dieser neue Kommunikationskanal soll es künftig ermöglichen, Tierpopulationen wie zum Beispiel Fischschwärme zu lenken. Die ForscherInnen erwarten, dass ihre Technologien vor allem in der Landwirtschaft und im Umwelt-Monitoring eingesetzt werden. Die gemischten Gesellschaften aus Tieren und Robotern bilden ein vollkommen neues bio-hybrides Computersystem, in dem sich die Fähigkeiten von Tier und Maschine sinnvoll ergänzen. Geforscht wird in den kommenden fünf Jahren mit Bienen, Fischen sowie Bienen- und Fischrobotern.
Koordinator des Projektes ist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmickl, der Leiter des Artifical Life Lab der Uni Graz. Die internationalen ForschungspartnerInnen kommen aus Portugal, der Schweiz, Deutschland, Frankreich und Kroatien.
