Kommt es zur Zerschlagung von Facebook, Instagram und WhatsApp? „Wenn überhaupt, wird das noch dauern“, spricht Viktoria Robertson, Expertin für Kartellrecht an der Universität Graz, von einem Zwischenschritt.
Erst kürzlich hat die US-Justiz die Klage gegen den Facebook-Konzern Meta rund um Mark Zuckerberg zugelassen, damit wird es zu einem Gerichtsprozess kommen. Ob die aufsehenerregende Nachricht nun weitere Klagen wegen der Monopolstellung digitaler Plattformen nach sich ziehen wird, lässt die Rechtswissenschafterin offen. „Es laufen schon seit 2020 zahlreiche Verfahren gegen andere Online-Riesen, Entscheidungen sind noch keine gefallen“, weiß Robertson.
Auch in Europa laufen Verfahren wegen Verletzung des Kartellrechts: Ende des Vorjahres hatte das EU-Gericht die Milliardenstrafe gegen Google wegen Ausnutzung seiner Marktmarkt in der Onlinesuche bestätigt. Das US-Unternehmen wird das Urteil nun vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof anfechten.

Handlungsbedarf ist gegeben. „So manche Plattform könnte finanzkräftiger und politisch mächtiger werden als ein Staat", warnt Robertson. „Es braucht klare Regeln, um Innovationen zu sichern, die Privatsphäre von NutzerInnen zu schützen und unsere westliche, liberale Demokratie zu bewahren.“
