Menschenrechte im Fokus

Uni Graz-Beteiligung bei renommierter UNAOC-Tagung

Ende Februar 2013 fand das "5th UNAOC Global Forum" der United Nations Alliance of Civilications in der Wiener Hofburg statt. UNAOC, eine politische Initiative des Generalsekretärs der Vereinten Nationen, beschäftigt sich auf der internationalen Ebene hauptsächlich mit den Themen Bildung, Jugend, Medien und Migration. Das Forum, welches durch seine Abhaltung in Österreich nun zum ersten Mal in Zentraleuropa stattfand, stand im Zeichen des Themas "Responsible Leadership in Diversity and Dialogue".

Auf der langen Liste der TeilnehmerInnen waren neben dem Generalsekretär der Vereinten Nationen Ban Ki-moon auch internationale ExpertInnen aus der Wirtschaft, der Zivilgesellschaft, der akademischen Forschung und Lehre sowie VertreterInnen staatlicher Stellen zu finden.

 

Uni Graz-Beteiligung
Als einziger österreichischer Wissenschafter in einer Reihe hochkarätiger Vortragender nahm Univ.-Prof. Wolfgang Benedek, Leiter des Instituts für Völkerrecht und Internationale Beziehungen der Universität Graz sowie Leiter des Europäischen Trainings- und Forschungszentrums für Menschenrechte und Demokratie der Universität Graz, teil. Dieser Workshop beschäftigte sich mit der Frage, wie Demokratie nachhaltig konsolidiert werden kann und welchen Beitrag dazu die Bildung im Bereich der Demokratie und die Menschenrechtsbildung leisten können. Im Zentrum standen dabei "Best Practices", beleuchtet wurde aber auch die Beziehung zwischen Demokratie, Dialog, Diversität und der Verwendung neuer Medien.

Scientists at the University of Graz are drawing attention to the negative consequences of this toxic cocktail.
