Ein neues Buch befasst sich mit den innovativen Unterrichtstafeln für Erzherzog Ferdinand (1754–1806)

Wie lässt sich Wissen bestmöglich und erfolgreich vermitteln? Diese Frage war vor Jahrhunderten schon Thema. Im Auftrag von Kaiser Franz I. Stephan und Maria Theresia konzipierte Philipp von Rottenberg im Jahr 1760 eine Reihe von Unterrichtstafeln zur Unterweisung des jungen Erzherzogs Ferdinand (1754–1806). Sie vermitteln tradierte Inhalte auf neuartige Weise und in kindgerechter Form. Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Marlies Raffler und Mag. Astrid Edlinger vom Institut für Geschichte der Uni Graz sind HerausgeberInnen eines kürzlich erschienenen Buches, das die Besonderheiten des für die damalige Zeit sehr innovativen „Lernmaterials“ aufzeigt.

 

Rottenbergs Tafeln, die sich heute in der Kulturhistorischen Sammlung des Universalmuseums Joanneum befinden, dokumentieren die bilderreiche Tradition des Barockkatholizismus sowie das Bestreben, einen anspruchsvollen Elementarunterricht in deutscher Sprache zu entwickeln. Inhaltlich dominieren Aspekte der Charakterbildung und religiösen Unterweisung, aber auch Instruktionen zu Mathematik, Grammatik, Schriftkunde und Geschichte.

„Die Wiederentdeckung und Interpretation dieses Konvoluts gewährt überraschende Einblicke in die Erziehungsvorstellungen einer Umbruchszeit, in der auch die allgemeine Schulpflicht eingeführt wurde“, erklärt Marlies Raffler. Im Rahmen einer Kooperation des Universalmuseums Joanneum und der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz entstand die vorliegende Edition, in der das komplexe ikonografische und didaktische System der Unterrichtstafeln ebenso untersucht wird wie das Themenspektrum eines fürstlichen Bildungsprogramms.
