Tagung beleuchtete Interaktionen zwischen postsowjetischen und europäischen Initiativen

Kunstbiennalen fungieren als Plattformen für Neues und Experimentelles. Sie bieten Staaten, Regionen und Städten einen Rahmen, ihre nationale wie lokale kulturelle Identität im internationalen Kontext zu präsentieren. Auch ihre ökonomische Relevanz nimmt zu. Seit den 1990er-Jahren steigt ihre Zahl stark an.

Unter dem Titel „Glocal Affairs: Kunstbiennalen im Kontext“ widmete sich am 27. April 2015 ein Symposium dem Thema in einem breiten internationalen Spektrum. Auf dem Programm standen Vorträge namhafter ExpertInnen über die documenta in Kassel, die EU-Biennale MANIFESTA, Global Studies des ZKM Karlsruhe, die Moscow Art Biennial sowie Biennale-Teilnahmen aus dem Kaukasus und Mittelasien unter anderem im Rahmen von der Biennale in Venedig.

Organisiert wurde das Symposium von der Historikerin Priv.-Doz. Dr. Waltraud M. Bayer in Kooperation mit Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sabine Flach, Leiterin des Instituts für Kunstgeschichte. Den Anlass bot ein vom Österreichischen Wissenschaftsfonds FWF gefördertes Projekt, in dem Waltraud Bayer mit ihrem Team zur Entwicklung moderner Kunstmuseen im postsowjetischen Raum forscht, mit dem Fokus auf der russischen Föderation. Neben der Betrachtung der gesamten Region befassen sich die WissenschafterInnen anhand von Fallstudien mit lokalen Entwicklungen in ausgewählten Städten. „Dabei haben Kunstbiennalen als Motor eine dynamische Entwicklung in Gang gesetzt“, erklärt Waltraud Bayer.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
