Kochen mit Erde

Projekt der Uni Graz erforscht Walderde als Nahrungsmittel

Erde gilt als die Mutter aller Dinge – doch kann man mit ihr auch Kochen? Mit dieser Frage beschäftigt sich erstmals ein interdisziplinäres Team, das sich aus vier Wissenschaftern zusammensetzt: Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Walter Gössler vom Institut für Chemie der Uni Graz, Assoz.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Helmut Jungwirth vom Offenen Labor Graz, Dr. Gernot Zarfel vom Institut für Hygiene, Mikrobiologie und Umweltmedizin der Med Uni Graz, der Schweizer Experimental-Koch Rolf Caviezel sowie Dr. Fritz Treiber vom Geschmackslabor der Uni Graz und Initiator des Projektes im Rahmen der 7. fakultät, des Zentrums für Gesellschaft, Wissen und Kommunikation an der Karl-Franzens Universität Graz.

Steirische Walderde auf dem Teller kredenzte und verkostete das Team im Rahmen eines Kick-off Events des gemeinsamen Forschungsprojektes am 4. Oktober 2014 im Offenen Labor Graz. In der ersten Projektphase sollen mit folgenden Fragen beantwortet werden: Gibt es humanpathogene Keime, die eine Hitzebehandlung im Backrohr und ein anschließendes Aufkochen im Wasser noch überleben? Welche Schwermetalle und besonders in welchen Konzentrationen befinden sich in der „Kocherde“ bzw. in den Endprodukten.

On the trail of the Big Bang: University of Graz receives 1.5 million euros for doctoral programmes

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
