Erwähnungen in der UNIZEIT 1/2018

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rudolf Bauer, Leiter des Instituts für Pharmazeutische Wissenschaften, wurde von der Society for Ethnopharmacology India (SFE) für seine Forschungen auf dem Gebiet der Ethnobotanik, Ethnopharmakologie und Arzneipflanzen der "SFE Outstanding International Scientist Award" (Pranab Banerji Memorial Award) verliehen. Weiters erhielt er den "Outstanding Contribution Award" der Shanghai International Conference on TCM and Natural Medicine.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Manfred Füllsack und Dr. Georg Jäger vom Institut für Systemwissenschaften, Innovations- und Nachhaltigkeitsforschung sowie Dr. Elke Höfler vom Institut für Romanistik wurden mit dem ELCH-Anerkennungspreis ausgezeichnet.

Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hohenester vom Institut für Physik erhielt am 15. Dezember 2017 den Forschungspreis des Landes Steiermark.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kroutil vom Institut für Chemie ist Chairman des Journals ChemCatChem.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Frank Madeo vom Institut für Molekulare Biowissenschaften wurde als Fellow in die American Academy of Microbiology gewählt. Univ.-Prof.

Dr. Bettina Nunner-Krautgasser vom Institut für Zivilverfahrensrecht und Insolvenzrecht wurde zum ordentlichen Mitglied des International Insolvency Institute ernannt.

Assoz. Prof. Dr. Stefan Palan vom Institut für Banken und Finanzierung wurde mit 1. Jänner 2018 zu einem der beiden Koeditoren des Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance ernannt.

Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Polaschek vom Institut für Rechtswissenschaftliche Grundlagen wurde am 23. November 2017 zum Mitglied der Historischen Landeskommission für Steiermark gewählt.

Mag. Lisa Prodinger vom Institut für Zivilverfahrensrecht und Insolvenzrecht erhielt für ihre Diplomarbeit eine Prämie der Gemeinnützigen Privatstiftung für Versicherungswirtschaft.

Dr. Jörg Schrittwieser vom Institut für Chemie wurde mit dem E-Learning-Champion ausgezeichnet.

Christoph Sonnleitner vom Institut für Geographie und Raumforschung erhielt den "Ravenstein Förderpreis" für seine herausragende kartographische Arbeit.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Heidrun Zettelbauer vom Institut für Geschichte erhielt am 15. Dezember 2017 den Erzherzog-Johann-Forschungspreis des Landes Steiermark.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
