Ass.-Prof. Dr. Tobias Eisenberg vom Institut für Molekulare Biowissenschaften erhielt den Richard-Pacher-Preis der Österreichischen Kardiologischen Gesellschaft für seine Publikation „Cardioprotection and life span extension by the natural polyamine spermidine“.

Mag. Martina Friesenbichler von der Akademie für Neue Medien und Wissenstransfer erhielt gemeinsam mit Dr. Ulrike Gelbmann und Thomas Winkler, PhD, vom Institut für Systemwissenschaften, Innovations- und Nachhaltigkeitsforschung am 9. November 2017 den Lehrpreis für die Lehrveranstaltung „Das Globale T-Shirt“. Tim Grabner, Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andrea Paletta und Dr. Gerald Payer vom Institut für Sportwissenschaft wurden für das Seminar „Sportpädagogik und schulpraktisch-methodische Übungen“ ausgezeichnet. Dr. Yvonne Völkl vom Institut für Romanistik erhielt den Preis für die Lehrveranstaltung „Interkulturelle Kommunikation“.

Dr. Ulrike Gelbmann vom Institut für Systemwissenschaften, Innovations- und Nachhaltigkeitsforschung wurde außerdem vom Magazin „Businessart“ als nachhaltige Gestalterin für ihr Lebenswerk geehrt.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Elke Gruber vom Institut für Erziehungs- und Bildungswissenschaft erhielt am 16. November 2017 für ihr Gesamtwerk von Bildungsministerin Dr. Sonja Hammerschmid den Staatspreis für Erwachsenenbildung in der Kategorie Wissenschaft und Forschung.

Assoz. Prof. Dr. Sabine A. Haring vom Institut für Soziologie wurde am 11. August 2017 von Bundesminister Mag. Hans Peter Doskozil zum Mitglied der Wissenschaftskommission beim Bundesministerium für Landesverteidigung und Sport für die Funktionsperiode 2017–2022 ernannt.

Ass.-Prof. Dr. Klaus Poier vom Institut für Öffentliches Recht und Politikwissenschaft wurde am
6. November 2017 mit dem Wissenschaftspreis der Margaretha-Lupac-Stiftung ausgezeichnet.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg Schreyögg vom Institut für Personalpolitik wurde zum Ehrenmitglied des Verbands der Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft ernannt.

Susanne Seifert, PhD, vom Institut für Erziehungs- und Bildungswissenschaft wurde am 13. November 2017 vom Land Steiermark für ihre Dissertation mit dem themenspezifischen Förschungspreis in der Kategorie „Brain“ ausgezeichnet. Außerdem erhielt sie gemeinsam mit Dr. Christoph Grimmer von der TU Graz den mit 10 000 Euro dotierten Landespreis für Forschung.

“HeinrichBiCool”: University of Graz demonstrates the effects of green facades and roofs

The University of Graz has launched a pioneering project at the University Centre for Theology. Its name, “HeinrichBiCool”, says it all: a comprehensive system of green facades and roof will cool the building at Heinrichstraße 80 during the summer. At the same time, this will create a new habitat for plants and animals, helping to increase biodiversity. The accompanying monitoring programme will provide detailed data on the impact of the measures on indoor climate, energy consumption and biodiversity. The findings will lay a scientifically sound foundation for further projects aimed at making cities sustainable, climate-resilient and liveable. The partners in this project, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), are AEE INTEC – Institute for Sustainable Technologies, Technisches Büro Siegfried Stark, the landscape architecture and urban planning firm “studio boden”, and Ökoteam Graz.
