Graz wird für vier Tage zum Mathematik-Olymp

Südkorea ist in Graz – zumindest in der Person von Jun Seok Oh. Der Doktorand am Institut für Mathematik der Karl-Franzens-Universität ist Teil des Organisationsteams für die Konferenz „Rings and Factorizations“, die von 19. bis 23. Feber 2018 gemeinsam mit der TU in Graz veranstaltet wird. Die Vortragenden kommen vom gesamten Erdball, ebenso die rund 100 TeilnehmerInnen.
Thematisch geht es um so genannte Ringe als algebraische Strukturen sowie Faktorisierungen – das Zerlegen und Ausklammern gewisser Faktoren, um zu Lösungen zu gelangen. Diskutiert werden sowohl neue theoretische Erkenntnisse als auch ihre Anwendung in den Computerwissenschaften, der Codierung oder der Kryptografie.
Mit diesen Forschungsbereichen befassen sich auch das NAWI-Graz-Masterstudium „Mathematics“, das Karl-Franzens-Universität und TU gemeinsam anbieten, sowie das Doktoratskolleg „Diskrete Mathematik“, an dem die Montanuniversität Leoben ebenfalls beteiligt ist. Die Studierenden sind sowohl als OrganisatorInnen als auch als Vortragende in die Konferenz eingebunden und profitieren von der starken internationalen Vernetzung.
Die Tagung findet seit 2012 alle zwei Jahre in Graz statt.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI
