AirCampus-Podcast der Woche: Wie kommt die Mur ins Museum?

Der AirCampus präsentiert diese Woche Wissens-Podcasts zu diesen Themen:

1) Die Mur im Museum: Der Smaragdgressling, eine vor Kurzem entdeckte Fischart, ist in der Mur zuhause - und zwar nur dort. Besondere Umstände machen den Fluss zum einzigartigen Lebensraum und "Hotspot" der biologischen Vielfalt. Eine Ausstellung des Universalmuseums Joanneum lädt ein, die Wissenschaft hinter dem Gewässer zu begreifen.

2) Vision oder Wirklichkeit: Faszination Star Wars! Doch ist die Weltraum-Saga nur ein Märchen oder könnten Laserschwert, Hologramm und interstellares Reisen Wirklichkeit werden? Wir hinterfragen den Wahrheitsgehalt dieser filmischer Visionen anlässlich des Star Wars-Tags am 4. Mai.

3) Heute schon gelacht? Anlässlich des Weltlachtags am 6. Mai fragen wir nach, warum dieses angeborene Verhalten so gesund ist, was beim Lachen mit uns auf körperlicher und mentaler Ebene passiert und warum wir dabei manchmal auch weinen müssen.

4) „Somewhere a place for us…“: Sein bekanntestes Werk ist das Musical "Westside Story": Am 25. August wäre Leonhard Bernstein 100 Jahre alt geworden. Das Orchester des Instituts Oberschützen der Kunstuni feiert den Komponisten schon am 30. Mai mit einem Konzert, in dem auch Stücke von Aaron Copland und George Gershwin zu hören sein werden.

Was ist der AirCampus?
Das Podcast-Projekt der vier Grazer Universitäten versorgt MitarbeiterInnen, Studierende sowie alle Interessierten das ganze Studienjahr über mit wissenswerten Infos aus der Welt der Forschung, aus dem Bildungsbereich und dem Campusleben der Karl-Franzens-Universität, Technischen Universität, Medizinischen Universität und Kunstuniversität. Früher als "Webradio" bekannt, gibt es auf der Website http://www.aircampus-graz.at auch alle Podcasts, die vor dem 2. Oktober 2017 publiziert wurden, im Archiv zum Nachhören. Die Initiative erhielt 2012 den Inge-Morath-Preis des Landes Steiermark und 2017 den PR-Panther in der Kategorie "Wissenschaft".

Building biological bridges: Chemist discovers an ecological tool for the pharmaceutical industry

Building a relationship on a solid foundation is also important in chemistry. To produce medicines, disinfectants or plant protection products, stable bonds between carbon atoms must be formed. Conventional chemical methods rely on environmentally harmful reagents and solvents to carry out the desired reaction. This process also produces unusable by-products. Chemist Lilla Gal has discovered an enzyme that enables the same process to take place efficiently and sustainably. The results of her research were recently published in the prestigious journal Angewandte Chemie.
