Grazer Datenschutz-Gespräche

Die neue Veranstaltungsreihe des Fachbereichs Recht und IT bietet ExpertInnen und Interessierten eine objektive Diskussionsplattform

Mit einer Podiumsdiskussion zur EU-Datenschutz-Grundverordnung (DSGVO) startete am 9. November 2017 im RESOWI-Zentrum der Karl-Franzens-Universität die neue Veranstaltungsreihe „Grazer Datenschutz-Gespräche“. Ziel dieses Projekts des Instituts für Rechtswissenschaftliche Grundlagen, Fachbereich Recht und IT, ist, Theorie und Praxis zusammenzubringen. „Zum einen sollen die Grazer Datenschutz-Gespräche den fachlichen Austausch unter ExpertInnen fördern, zum anderen allen Interessierten Zugang zu aktuellen Informationen bieten“, erklärte Assoz. Prof. Dr. Christian Bergauer bei der Eröffnung.

Die Auftaktveranstaltung verstand sich als Vorbereitung auf die DSGVO, die mit 25. Mai 2016 in Kraft getreten und nach einer 24-monatigen Frist mit 25. Mai 2018 anzuwenden ist. Über die aus der neuen Verordnung resultierenden Konsequenzen diskutierten unter der Moderation von Christian Bergauer Datenschutzbeauftragte von drei Unternehmen: Mag. Markus Kastelitz (Research Institute AG & Co KG), Mag. Martin Leiter (ÖBB-Holding AG) und Mag. Judith Leschanz (A1 Telekom Austria AG).

In Zukunft werden weitere aktuelle Themenbereiche des Datenschutzrechts wissenschaftlich begleitet zur Diskussion gestellt.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
