Steirische Hochschulkonferenz und Uni Graz unterstützen March for Science Vienna

Gemeinsam für die Wissenschaft, gemeinsam auf die Straße – so die Devise für den March for Science morgen, Samstag, den 22. April 2017 in Wien. Angesichts aktueller politischer Veränderungen nicht nur in den USA sowie hochschulpolitischer Entscheidungen in Ungarn geht es darum, das Fundament der Wissenschaft zu schützen und zu stärken. Mehr als 400 Demonstrationen in aller Welt finden dazu am selben Tag statt. Auch die Steirische Hochschulkonferenz (SHK) nimmt aktiv am March for Science Vienna teil und ist mit einer SHK-Delegation bei der Demonstration vertreten.
Rektorin Christa Neuper trägt die Initiative mit: „Die Wissenschaft ist eine zentrale Säule in und für unsere Gesellschaft. Wir brauchen eine freie Forschung, um Lösungen für die globalen Herausforderungen zu entwickeln und die Zukunft positiv zu gestalten. “

March of Science Vienna - Ablauf
Wer das Anliegen des Vienna March for Science aktiv unterstützen will, findet morgen, Samstag, 22. April 2017, ab 13 Uhr Gelegenheit. Der March beginnt mit einem Science Picnic im Sigmund-Freud-Park. Um 14 Uhr setzt sich der Marsch in Bewegung. Die Route führt vom Sigmund-Freud-Park über Freyung, Tuchlauben, Stephansplatz, Wollzeile, Schellinggasse, Walfischgasse und Albertina zu Michaelerplatz und Heldenplatz zum Abschlussfest am Maria-Theresien-Platz.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
