Hat Corona auch die Banken angesteckt? Uni-Graz-ForscherInnen beleuchten die Folgen der Pandemie fürs Geldgeschäft

Die Pandemie hat auch der Bankwirtschaft zugesetzt. Drohende Zahlungsausfälle führten kurzfristig zu massiven Verlusten von Bankwerten. Wirtschaftspolitische Sofortmaßnahmen und eine gegenüber 2008 deutlich erhöhte Widerstandsfähigkeit beruhigten rasch den Sektor. Andrea Schertler, Professorin für Finance and Business Analytics an der Universität Graz, kann daher entwarnen: „Kreditinstitute sind gegenwärtig vielmehr Teil der Lösung und nicht des Problems.“ Und dennoch, so die Wissenschafterin, Corona habe den Druck zur strukturellen Anpassung verstärkt. Schertler hebt die Rolle des Niedrigzinsumfelds und die beschleunigte Digitalisierung hervor. „Zugleich erleben der regionale Stellenwert und die KundInnen-Nähe eine Renaissance, wenn auch in neuer Form“, räumt Roland Mestel, außerordentlicher Professor am Institut für Banken und Finanzierung, ein.

Wie sich die Bankwirtschaft weiter wandelt und welche Folgen die Corona-Pandemie hat, sind Themen einer Online-Diskussion der Forschungsplattform „Finance Research (FiRe)“ der Universität Graz. Unter der Moderation von Andrea Schertler diskutieren am 20. Oktober 2021 um 18 Uhr:
