Internationale Sommerschule zur Luftfahrtpsychologie bringt ExpertInnen aus aller Welt nach Graz

Ein Flugzeugabsturz in Taiwan sorgte kürzlich wieder für Schlagzeilen: Der Pilot hatte den falschen Hebel betätigt und statt dem defekten das funktionierende Triebwerk ausgeschaltet. Dieser fatale Fehler ließe sich durch ausreichendes Training in einem guten Flugsimulator vermeiden, sind sich ExpertInnen einig. Solche sind diese Woche an der Uni Graz, um im Rahmen der International Summer School on Aviation Psychology ISAP die Flugsicherheit zu erhöhen.

Gefahrloser Flugverkehr ist ohne den Einsatz von Psychologie undenkbar. WissenschafterInnen der Karl-Franzens-Universität entwickeln in Kooperation mit der TU Graz und der FH Joanneum die Sicherheitskultur in der Luftfahrt ständig weiter – und das weltweit federführend. Im Zentrum stehen PilotInnen, FluglotsInnen und Wartungspersonal. „Der zivile Flugbetrieb ist besser vor Ausfällen geschützt als jedes andere System, da alles doppelt ausgelegt ist“, weiß der Psychologe Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kallus.
In Graz wurden unter anderem spezielle Trainings für Sport- und MilitärpilotInnen entwickelt, mit deren Hilfe es gelang, Desorientierung als Unfallursache zu minimieren. Viele große Linien machen mit ihrem gesamten fliegenden Personal kontinuierlich „Crew-Resource-Management-Programme“. Dadurch soll der optimale Umgang des Teams miteinander erprobt und auf Probleme in der Kommunikation hingewiesen werden.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
