Gegen das Vergessen

Einladung zur Podiumsdiskussion

Das Potenzial des Gehirns und dessen Auslöschung: Podiumsdiskussion über Alzheimer und Demenz am 6. März an der Uni Graz

„Irgendwann werde ich nicht mehr wissen, wer du bist.“ Das sagt Ernst Lemden, gespielt von Klaus Maria Brandauer, im jüngst gezeigten Fernsehfilm „Die Auslöschung“ zu Judith Fuhrmann, gespielt von Martina Gedeck. Die Alzheimer-Krankheit erzeugt Betroffenheit und wird angesichts der Bevölkerungsentwicklung rasant ansteigen. 18 Millionen Euro stellt eine EU-Initiative gegen das Vergessen zur Verfügung.

Eine hochkarätig besetzte Diskussionsrunde widmet sich im Rahmen des Ö1-CityScienceTalk an der Uni Graz am 6. März 2013 dem Potenzial des Gehirns und dessen Auslöschung:
- Nikolaus Leytner, Regisseur und Drehbuchautor. Er hat sich für den TV-Film „Die Auslöschung“ intensiv mit Alzheimerkranken beschäftigt.
- Markus Müller, Medizinische Universität Wien. Der klinische Pharmakologe Markus Müller forscht unter anderem an einem Impfstoff, mit dem das Vergessen gestoppt werden soll.
- Gernot Müller-Putz, Leiter des Institutes for Knowledge Discovery, TU Graz. Der Forscher entwickelt eine Hirn-Computer-Schnittstelle.
- Peter Strasser, Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. Der Philosoph reflektiert über die Vorstellung, dass der Mensch nichts als sein Gehirn sei.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

From trans women and knee prostheses: sports science prizes awarded

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
