Uni Graz lädt zu Diskussion mit Gilbert Prilasnig

Die Uni Graz ist auch bei der Euro 2016 am Ball: Wie viel Wissenschaft im Fußballsport steckt, erörtern Gesellschaftsethiker Leopold Neuhold, Historiker Johannes Gießauf sowie Sprachwissenschaft-Absolvent und Ex-Profi-Kicker Gilbert Prilasnig am 14. Juni 2016 vor dem Spiel Österreich-Ungarn. Die Podiumsdiskussion findet im Botanischen Garten statt – mit anschließendem „Private Viewing“, einer exklusiven Übertragung des Matches.

Wenn Fans ins Stadion pilgern und Kicker auf dem heiligen Rasen spielen, dann ist Leopold Neuhold gefragt. Der Ethiker an der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät analysiert die Ersatzreligion und verweist auf zahlreiche religiöse Bezüge im Wettkampf. Dass Fußball mehr als nur ein Spiel ist, bestätigt auch Johannes Gießauf vom Institut für Geschichte. Er zeigt auf, wie Sport von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart für Machtdemonstrationen missbraucht wurde. Und Gilbert Prilasnig beweist, dass Profi-Fußball und Wissenschaft kein Widerspruch sind. Der ehemalige Nationalkicker schloss 2011 sein Linguistik-Studium an der Karl-Franzens-Universität ab.

Why does the body composition of babies vary so much? Some children gain a significant amount of fat mass within a few weeks, whilst others show hardly any change over the same period. “At the same time, initial observations suggest that fat distribution in all babies may follow a similar pattern, regardless of their total body fat,” explains Marco Höfler from the Institute of Movement Sciences, Sport and Health at the University of Graz. He is coordinating the research project ‘Small Bodies – Big Questions’, for which participants are currently still being sought: pregnant women and babies up to four weeks old.
