Honorarkonsul Senator Rudi Roth verlieh Stipendien an der Universität Graz

In Bosnien und Herzegowina ist die Textilindustrie ein wichtiger Wirtschaftszweig. Immer mehr europäische Unternehmen lassen ihre Kleidung dort fertigen. Wie es um die Arbeitsbedingungen in diesen Fabriken bestellt ist, untersucht Rea Palic in ihrer Masterarbeit im Fach Betriebswirtschaft. Sie ist eine von fünf Studierenden – drei an der Karl-Franzens-Universität, zwei an der Kunstuniversität Graz –, die heuer ein Stipendium von Senator Rudi Roth erhalten. Der Honorarkonsul von Ungarn fördert seit 2001 wissenschaftliche Arbeiten mit Bezug zu Ost- und Südosteuropa.
Am 14. September 2018 wurden die Stipendien in der Höhe von insgesamt 14.000 Euro in der Aula der Universität Graz verliehen. Die Verleihung fand im Rahmen einer Jubiläumsveranstaltung zum 25-jährigen Bestehen des ungarischen Honorarkonsulats in der Steiermark statt, an der unter anderem Landeshauptmann Hermann Schützenhöfer, der ungarische Kanzleramtsminister Gergely Gulyás und Erzbischof Franz Lackner teilnahmen.

Rund 200 hervorragende Studierende hat Rudi Roth seit 2001 mit insgesamt an die 300.000 Euro bereits gefördert. An der Universität Graz unterstützen die Stipendien Studierende, die in ihrer Diplom-/Masterarbeit oder Dissertation Themen mit Bezug zu Ost- oder Südosteuropa beforschen. Damit können sie Auslandsaufenthalte für Quellenstudien und Feldforschung finanzieren.
„Die Stipendien leisten einen wertvollen Beitrag in der Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses sowie dazu, die Expertise der Universität Graz zu Ost- und Südosteuropa weiter auszubauen“, dankte Rektorin Christa Neuper dem Sponsor.

„Wichtig ist für mich, durch diese Stipendien an meiner Alma Mater sowie durch meine 25-jährige Tätigkeit als Honorarkonsul von Ungarn eine friedliche und wirtschaftliche Brücke zwischen Österreich, der Steiermark und den Ländern Südosteuropas zu schlagen“, unterstrich Rudi Roth.

Als Dank für seine langjährige Unterstützung erhielt der Sponsor zum Geburtstag von der Universität Graz ein ganz besonderes Geschenk: Ein Lesesaal der neuen Universitätsbibliothek wird seinen Namen tragen. Rektorin Christa Neuper überreichte die Urkunde.

It was apparently not just the roars of the dinosaurs that made up the soundscape of the animal world during the Jurassic period. Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
