Die SOWI-Fakultät ehrte wieder ihre besten AbsolventInnen. Ein ganzer Nachmittag und Abend standen im Zeichen der Wirtschaftswissenschaften

Zum Dialog mit Studierenden, KollegInnen sowie KooperationspartnerInnen lädt die Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche (SOWI) Fakultät der Uni Graz alljährlich im Rahmen von „SOWI im Dialog“ – und am 8. November 2017 ging die Veranstaltung zum bereits 20. Mal im RESOWI-Zentrum über die Bühne. „Ziel ist es, die Leistungen unserer Studierenden ins Schaufenster zu stellen“, begründete SOWI-Dekan Thomas Foscht im Rahmen der Eröffnung. Vizerektor Peter Riedler hob die Bedeutung von fachlicher Berufsausbildung und Persönlichkeitsbildung der Studierenden hervor: „Die kritische Auseinandersetzung ist ein besonderes Merkmal einer Universität und muss gefördert werden.“

Und wie jedes Jahr auch, zeichnete die SOWI im Rahmen des Fakultätstages am 8. November auch ihre besten AbsolventInnen und ihre Master- und Doktorarbeiten in einem eigenen Event aus. Insgesamt 21 wissenschaftliche Arbeiten standen in Auswahl. Unter dem Titel „SOWI-Ranking“ stellte Studiendekan Heinz Königsmaier die einzelnen Personen vor, das Top-Drei-Team besteht heuer aus Stefan Giuliani, BSc MSc (Platz 1), Ines Wöckl, BSc MSc (Platz 2) sowie Simona Hermus, BA BSc MSc (Platz 3). Ausgezeichnet wurden die 21 besten Master- bzw. Doktorarbeiten sowie die besten 15 SOWI-Studierenden nach Notenschnitt.

SOWI im Dialog, SOWI-Ranking und der gesamte Tag wird unterstützt vom AbsolventInnen-Verein SOWI AV sowie der Grazer Wechselseitige Versicherung.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
