Konfuzius-Institut an der Universität Graz lädt zu hochkarätig besetztem China-Forum

Den Dialog zwischen Europa und China zu fördern, ist Ziel des Konfuzius-Instituts an der Universität Graz. Von 23. bis 24. Oktober 2018 lädt das Konfuzius-Institut zum 4. China-Forum, das sich heuer dem Thema „Kooperation und Innovation“ mit besonderem Fokus auf Digitalisierung, Nachhaltigkeit und Lebensqualität widmet. Die Eröffnungsveranstaltung findet am Abend des 23. Oktober in der Aula der Universität Graz statt, zum Workshop-Programm am 24. Oktober sind die TeilnehmerInnen an die TU Graz eingeladen.

Prominente Vortragende unterstreichen die Bedeutung des Dialogs zwischen Ost und West auf kultureller, wirtschaftlicher und politischer Ebene. Erhard Busek, Präsident des Senats der Wirtschaft Österreich, wird im Rahmen der Eröffnung „China und Europa in einer Welt der Veränderung“ betrachten. Gefolgt von Michael Karnitschnig, Kabinettchef des EU-Kommissars für Europäische Nachbarschaftspolitik und Erweiterungsverhandlungen, der zum Thema „Europa – China und die neue Seidenstraße“ sprechen wird.
Das China-Forum ist Teil der Initiative „Belt and Road“, die seit 2013 die Interessen und Ziele der Volksrepublik China zum Auf- und Ausbau interkontinentaler Handels- und Infrastruktur-Netze bündelt. Unterstützt wird das Projekt von der UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) durch integrative und nachhaltige Entwicklung, wie Yong Li, Generaldirektor der UNIDO in Wien, erläutern wird.

In den Workshops am 24. Oktober geben ForscherInnen sowie ExpertInnen aus der Praxis Wissen und Erfahrungen zu aktuellen Themen rund um Digitalisierung, Nachhaltigkeit und Lebensqualität weiter und laden zum interaktiven Austausch ein. „Internationale Partnerschaften und übergeordnete Erfahrungstransfers verbessern die Voraussetzungen für Wachstum, Verständnis und Wohlstand. Daher bildet die Zusammenführung von China und Österreich bzw. Europa für einen gemeinsamen Nutzen das zentrale Anliegen der diesjährigen Veranstaltung“, erklärt Wan Jie Chen, Direktor des Konfuzius-Instituts in Graz.

Das China-Forum bietet Gelegenheit zum Networking mit ExpertInnen und potenziellen PartnerInnen, zur Anbahnung von Geschäftsbeziehungen, Kooperationen und Forschungsmöglichkeiten, zu Spinning und Weiterentwicklung von Ideen sowie zur Erhöhung interkultureller Kompetenzen.

Staying fit during the holidays: summer sports on the University of Graz campus

The Kleeblattlauf is not the end of the fitness term. Following last year’s successful launch, the University of Graz is once again offering summer sports on campus this year. From 30 June to 16 July 2026, there will be a free exercise programme in the open air. On the shady Südwiese (between the main building and Universitätsplatz 2), anyone interested can get in shape in the afternoons with body workouts, fascia training and yoga.

Getting even hotter: Researchers predict global warming of 1.7 degrees by 2027

While Europe is currently sweltering in the heat, global temperatures are also rising towards concerning record levels. In 2026, Earth’s surface air temperature is expected to reach 1.62 degrees, and in 2027 even 1.71 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The long-term temperature rise – an average over a 20-year period – is predicted to exceed the 1.5-degree threshold of the Paris Agreement as of 2026 already. For the first time, researchers at the University of Graz have been able to make such a forecast so far in advance. The intensifying El Niño climate event favors forecast skill and thereby facilitates a reliable computation.
