The University of Graz will change to the traffic light status "yellow" with the start of the summer semester on Monday, February 28, 2022. This is done in close coordination with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, and also in accordance with the other universities on site. The change means some facilitations as well as extensive face-to-face teaching.

The university management plans to withdraw all Covid-related restrictions as soon as possible. The aim is to restore normal university operations while constantly monitoring the occurring infections and evaluating the measures taken. As soon as the situation allows, the university's internal Corona traffic light will also be "switched off".

As of Monday, February 28, 2022, the following regulations will apply until further notice:

  • 2.5 G proof (vaccinated/recovered/PCR-tested) is still required to enter university buildings. This proof will still be checked on a random basis. Upon presentation of 2-G proof valid until July 2, 2022, students and staff may voluntarily be issued an access pass.
  • Wearing FFP2 masks in all public areas of the university as well as in all courses is also still mandatory. This is still the most effective way to protect yourself and others.
  • The teaching rooms may be fully utilized again.
  • It is possible to hold events in compliance with the 2.5 G rule (vaccinated/recovered/PCR-tested) and the FFP2 mask requirement. Regarding the planning of events, please contact the event service.
  • Office operations are resumed in the usual manner with 100 percent attendance. Staff members who belong to high-risk groups or colleagues working in open-plan offices can request to work from home at the Personnel Management.
  • Use of the reading and study spaces in all areas of the University Library is possible without booking a seat. Access to the premises with 2.5 G proof. Wearing of an FFP2 mask at the seat is obligatory.

Complying with the norm: Why Do Standards Shape Our Lives, Elisabeth Staudegger?

Standards determine whether a sheet of paper fits in a printer or whether a charging plug can power multiple devices. These standards shape our everyday lives. But who actually sets these standards? Elisabeth Staudegger, Head of the ‘Law and IT’ Department at the Institute for Legal Foundations at the University of Graz, host the Academic Standards Day on 16 June. Here she relays how sciences can contribute to the topic of standardisation and reveals her personal favourite standard.

Survival strategies: How plants respond to drought

According to Geosphere Austria, this spring was the driest in Austria since records began around 170 years ago. The low rainfall put particular pressure on the agricultural sector. And climate change is set to make the situation even worse in the coming decades. We asked Johannes Liesche, a professor at the Department of Biology at the University of Graz, how plants react to water shortages and how they survive periods of drought.
