Bronze für Österreich

Lehramtsstudent Alexander Payer fährt bei der Winteruniversiade aufs Stockerl

Die alpine Skiweltmeisterschaft in Vail/Beaver Creek ist vergangenes Wochenende zu Ende gegangen und Österreichs SportlerInnen rund um Anna Fenninger und Marcel Hirscher brachten dank großartigen Leistungen insgesamt neun Medaillen mit nach Hause.

 

Auch die Karl-Franzens-Universität hat Grund zur Freude: Snowboarder Alexander Payer - er studiert Sport und Geographie auf Lehramt - gewann bei der Winteruniversiade 2015 in Granada im Parallel Giant Slalom Men die Bronze-Medaille. Gold ging an den Deutschen Daniel Weiss vor dem Koreaner Bo-Gun Choi. Für Payer bedeutet die Medaille einen besonderen Erfolg: "Sie zeigt, dass es möglich ist, Leistungssport auf Weltnieveau zu betreiben und gleichzeitig eine akademische Ausbildung zu absolvieren." Langfristige Pläne schmiedet der Snowboarder bereits: Im Sommersemester 2016 möchte er sein Lehramtsstudium abschließen. Und im Jahr darauf wartet die Universiade in Kasachstan: "Dort möchte ich unbedingt Gold holen!", ist sich Payer sicher.

 

Die Winteruniversiaden waren bereits in jüngster Vergangenheit ein erfolgreiches Pflaster für Studierende der Uni Graz: Im Dezember 2013 hatte Sebastian Kislinger ebenfalls im Parallel Giant Slalom Men Gold in Trentino geholt.
