Uni Graz lädt zum Botanik Brunch mit Weizen, Gerste und Hopfen

Es braut sich was zusammen – beim sonntäglichen Botanik Brunch der Uni Graz am 10. September 2017, bei dem dieses Mal die Kulturpflanzen Hopfen, Malz und Weizen im Mittelpunkt stehen. Welche gesundheitsfördernden Stoffe sind im Hopfen enthalten? Warum bringt dieser die Würze ins Bier? Und ist das Gewächs tatsächlich mit dem Hanf verwandt?
Diese und viele weitere Fragen werden bei der Veranstaltung für die ganze Familie im Botanischen Garten und im angrenzenden Bauerngarten beantwortet. Gestärkt mit einem schmackhaften Frühstück wird bei einer Führung der spätsommerliche Bauerngarten erkundet.
Interessant wird es auch bei einem Vortrag übers Bierbrauen mit Blick in den Kessel sowie bei der Verkostung des Genussmittels. Für die alkoholfreie Erfrischung sorgen die kleinen BraumeisterInnen, die nach Lust und Laune ihre eigene Hopfenlimonade kreieren und selbst Malz mahlen können.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
