Vizedekanin Andrea Steiner übernimmt ab 1. März die interimistische Leitung der URBI-Fakultät

Da Bildungswissenschaftler Rudolf Egger aus persönlichen Gründen sein Amt als Dekan der Umwelt-, Regional- und Bildungswissenschaftlichen (URBI) Fakultät mit 1. März 2023 zurücklegen wird, übernimmt die derzeitige Vizedekanin und Universitätsprofessorin für Klimaanalyse Andrea Steiner die interimistische Leitung der URBI-Fakultät.
Das Prozedere zur Bestellung einer neuen Dekanin/eines neuen Dekans bis zum Ende der derzeitigen Funktionsperiode, also bis 30. September 2024, richtet sich nach den Bestimmungen des Organisationsplans. Diesem folgend hat das Rektorat die Professor:innen-Kurie bereits ersucht, einen entsprechenden Vorschlag zu unterbreiten.

Four introduced species of leafhoppers newly discovered in the Botanical Garden Graz

They have travelled to Europe as stowaways via international trade and are now rapidly taking over large parts of the continent: more and more insects from other parts of the world are becoming established here. Biologist Gernot Kunz recently discovered four species for the first time at the University of Graz Botanical Garden: the American grapevine leafhopper (Scaphoideus titanus), the wounded leafhopper from North America (Erasmoneura vulnerata) and the Japanese grape leafhopper (Arboridia kakogawana) – all three specialising in vines – as well as the Indian leafhopper Pediopsoides sharmai, which is associated with walnut trees.

A total of 170 entries were submitted to the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ essay competition on the topic of artificial intelligence and science. Both first and second place went to researchers from the University of Graz.

Kohlendioxid gilt als Klimaproblem. Es kann aber auch Rohstoff sein. Der Grazer Chemiker Johann Hlina untersucht, wie sich Kohlenoxide wieder in Kohlenwasserstoffe verwandeln lassen – also in Ausgangsmaterial für Treibstoffe, Kunststoffe und Medikamente. Helfen sollen dabei Seltenerdmetalle
