Philosoph Konrad Paul Liessmann am 9. Jänner zu Gast an der Uni Graz

Abhilfe gegen die Armutsfalle, Heilmittel gegen den Klimawandel, Patentrezept für die Integration von MigrantInnen und Wunderwaffe im Kampf gegen den Terror – all das soll Bildung leisten. Gleichzeitig, so meint der österreichische Philosoph Konrad Paul Liessmann, ist die Gelehrsamkeit zur Provokation geworden.
Warum, das ergründet Liessmann in seinem 2017 erschienen Buch „Bildung als Provokation“, aus dem er am Dienstag, 9. Jänner 2018, ab 19 Uhr in der Aula der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz liest. Liessmann durchforstet darin Parteienlandschaft und soziale Netzwerke gleichermaßen, er analysiert den moralischen Diskurs des Zeitgeists und er fragt, warum es so unangenehm ist, gebildeten Menschen zu begegnen.
Nach der Lesung diskutiert der Autor unter der Moderation des Soziologen Manfred Prisching mit Sigrid Hartong, Professorin für Erziehungswissenschaft und Leiterin des Forschungsprojektes „Bildungsdatenmanagement“ an der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität Hamburg. Die Veranstaltung findet im Rahmen der Reihe „Zur Sache“ des Grazer Literaturhauses und in Kooperation mit der Geisteswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Uni Graz statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.

The partners in this project, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), are AEE INTEC – Institute for Sustainable Technologies, Technisches Büro Siegfried Stark, the landscape architecture and urban planning firm “studio boden”, and Ökoteam Graz.

Desert sand, microplastics, cancer cells: David Clases awarded ERC grant for analytical method

Nanoparticles trapped in polar ice can reveal a great deal about the climate 100,000 years ago. Chemist David Clases is developing unique methods to analyse them in detail. He will now adapt these methods for use with larger particles in order to glean even more information about Earth’s history. The method can be used for a wide range of other purposes – for example, in medical diagnostics or the investigation of environmental pollution. Clases has been awarded a Proof-of-Concept Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) for this work.
