Besuch aus Afghanistan

Um den Aufbau von Beziehungen zwischen der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz und Universitäten in Afghanistan zu unterstützen, besuchte Ayoob M. Erfani, seit April 2013 Botschafter Afghanistans in Österreich, am 4. Juni die Uni Graz. Rektorin Christa Neuper empfing Erfani zu einem Gespräch.

Der Botschafter betonte die positiven Entwicklungen in Afghanistan in den letzten Jahren, speziell im Bildungssektor. Dabei unterstrich er, dass er die Ausbildung der jungen Generation und die Stärkung der Rolle der Frauen als Grundstein für eine erfolgreiche und friedliche gesellschaftliche Entwicklung sehe. Der Anteil von Frauen in der Bildung sei in Afghanistan im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern der Region sehr hoch. 35 Prozent der SchülerInnen sind Mädchen.

 

2014 werden die von der NATO geführten ISAF-Truppen aus Afghanistan abgezogen und Präsidentschaftswahlen stattfinden. Somit befindet sich das Land in einem wichtigen Übergangsprozess. Botschafter Erfani hofft, dass er etwas dazu beitragen kann, die Beziehungen der Universität Graz zu Unis in Afghanistan aufzubauen. Denn sein Land brauche Unterstützung bei der Entwicklung von Handlungskompetenzen und Kapazitäten, um auf eigenen Beinen stehen zu können.

Dazu sollen gemeinsame Interessensfelder zwischen den Universitäten Kabul und Graz identifiziert und konkrete Unterstützungsmaßnahmen vereinbart werden, wie zum Beispiel Aufenthalte von Lehrenden der Uni Graz in Kabul, Bücherspenden und Forschungszusammenarbeit.

 

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Krüßmann, Koordinator des Besuchs und Leiter des Zentrums „Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies“ (REEES) an der Uni Graz, ist überzeugt: „Afghanistan kommt aus geopolitischer Sicht eine zentrale Rolle bei der Beruhigung der Lage in Zentralasien zu.“ Informationen aus erster Hand bekamen Studierende und Interessierte dann am Abend bei einem „Country Talk Afghanistan“ am REEES, zu dem Krüßmann Botschafter Erfani eingeladen hatte.

The Austrian Science Fund FWF has selected the Doctoral Programme in Theoretical Particle Physics at the University of Graz for funding from the Doc.funds. Six young scientists will be funded for 3.5 years. They will gain fundamentally new insights into the origins of the world.

Walking better with a prosthesis, successfully getting rid of excess weight, training more effectively, more fairness for trans people in sport: these were the topics addressed by the students at the University of Graz who were awarded the sports science prizes for their Master's theses on 3 December 2025.
