Geologe Kurt Stüwe stellte neuen Bildband „Panoramen der Steiermark“ vor

Er erforscht die geologische Geschichte von Afrika und war in Grönland auf den Spuren Alfred Wegeners unterwegs. Für sein neuestes Projekt blieb Kurt Stüwe, Erdwisenschafter an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, auf heimischem Gebiet und beobachtete die Steiermark von oben. Gemeinsam mit dem Fotografen Ruedi Homberger dokumentiert Stüwe in einem druckfrischen Buch die landschaftliche Vielfalt des „grünen Herzens Österreichs“ aus der Vogelperspektive. 200 Seiten umfasst der Bildband „Panoramen der Steiermark“, der, so die beiden Autoren, ganz in der Tradition des steirischen Landschaftsfotografen Hans Gsellmann entstanden ist. Am 6. Dezember 2017 wurde das Buch in den Gewächshäusern des Botanischen Gartens der Uni Graz präsentiert.

„Die Steiermark ist geologisch eines der vielfältigsten Gebiete des Alpenbogens“, erklärte Kurt Stüwe seine Faszination für das Bundesland. „Geologie ist auch eng mit Geschichte, Wirtschaft und Wachstum verbunden. So hängt mit dem Erzberg eng die kulturelle Blüte der Renaissance oder die industrielle Entwicklung der Mur-Mürz-Furche zusammen.“ Bis zu 100 Flugstunden war das Team unterwegs. „Das Abenteuer war auch dabei“, gestand Homberger, der auch Pilot ist.

Die zum Buch gehörige Webseite http://www.luftbildsteiermark.at/ bietet einen Großteil der Fotos zum Download sowie Lernunterstützung für Schulen an, zudem versteht sie sich als Beitrag für Fotodokumentationen der Steiermark.

Der Bildband „Panoramen der Steiermark“, erschienen im Weishaupt Verlag, ist im Buchhandel um 48 Euro erhältlich.

“HeinrichBiCool”: University of Graz demonstrates the effects of green facades and roofs

The University of Graz has launched a pioneering project at the University Centre for Theology. Its name, “HeinrichBiCool”, says it all: a comprehensive system of green facades and roof will cool the building at Heinrichstraße 80 during the summer. At the same time, this will create a new habitat for plants and animals, helping to increase biodiversity. The accompanying monitoring programme will provide detailed data on the impact of the measures on indoor climate, energy consumption and biodiversity. The findings will lay a scientifically sound foundation for further projects aimed at making cities sustainable, climate-resilient and liveable. The partners in this project, funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), are AEE INTEC – Institute for Sustainable Technologies, Technisches Büro Siegfried Stark, the landscape architecture and urban planning firm “studio boden”, and Ökoteam Graz.
