Das OFFENE LABOR GRAZ lädt wieder zu Sommerkursen. Uni-Bedienstete zahlen für ihre Kinder weniger

Wie stelle ich Joghurt her und warum sehen Flammen nicht immer gleich aus? Welche Köstlichkeiten finde ich im Wald und wie kann man Bakterien anfärben?

Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter von sechs bis 14 Jahren bekommen auch heuer wieder die Möglichkeit, während der Sommerferien im Juli und August eine Woche lang – täglich von neun bis 13 Uhr – im OFFENEN LABOR an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz zu forschen. Unter Anleitung von Uni-MitarbeiterInnen und Studierenden können die JungforscherInnen ihr Wissen stillen und in einem universitären Forschungslabor experimentieren.

Zur Teilnahme berechtigt sind VolksschülerInnen, UnterstufenschülerInnen aus Hauptschule, Neue Mittelschule und Gymnasium – damit die Sommerseminar-TeilnehmerInnen auch persönlich betreut werden können, sind die Gruppen auf maximal 16 Plätze begrenzt. Eine Jause, eine Arbeitsmappe mit Laborunterlagen und der Labormantel werden selbstverständlich zur Verfügung gestellt.

Zuckerl für MitarbeiterInnen: Für Kinder von Uni-Bediensteten kostet der Kurs statt 130 Euro nur 120 Euro. Bei der Anmeldung Name und Dienstort angeben.

Das OFFENE LABOR GRAZ ist ein molekularbiologisches „Mitmachlabor“ an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, in dem BesucherInnen – von jung bis alt – selbst wissenschaftliche Experimente durchführen können.

Building biological bridges: Chemist discovers an ecological tool for the pharmaceutical industry

Building a relationship on a solid foundation is also important in chemistry. To produce medicines, disinfectants or plant protection products, stable bonds between carbon atoms must be formed. Conventional chemical methods rely on environmentally harmful reagents and solvents to carry out the desired reaction. This process also produces unusable by-products. Chemist Lilla Gal has discovered an enzyme that enables the same process to take place efficiently and sustainably. The results of her research were recently published in the prestigious journal Angewandte Chemie.
