Auf den Spuren von Tu You You

Enge Verbindung von TCM-ForscherInnen nach China

Die Pharmazie-Studentinnen Julia Solnier und Stephanie Gschwandtner haben von Juli bis Oktober 2015 den experimentellen Teil ihrer Diplomarbeiten am Research Center for Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine des Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica der chinesischen Akademie für Wissenschaften verfasst. Die Themen waren die Entwicklung von validierten Analyse-Methoden für die chinesischen Arzneidrogen "Achyranthis bidentatae Radix" und "Typhae Pollen". Die chinesische Pharmakognostin Tu You You hat vor kurzem den Nobelpreis in Medizin für die Entdeckung des Antimalariawirkstoffs Artemisinin erhalten. Diesen hat sie aus der chinesischen Arzneipflanze Artemisia annua L. isoliert. Maßgebliche Arbeiten zur Entwicklung von Artemisinin als Arzneistoff wurden am Shanghai Institut für Materia Medica der chinesischen Akademie für Wissenschaften durchgeführt.

Betreut wurden die beiden Studierenden vor Ort von der Arbeitsgruppe von Prof. Dr. Guo De-an, der eine Kooperation mit dem Grazer TCM-Experten Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rudolf Bauer vom Institut für Pharmazeutische Wissenschaften unterhält. Bauer hat 2007 zusammen mit Prof. Dr. Gerhard Litscher das interuniversitäre TCM-Forschungszentrum Graz gegründet. Zum Abschluss der Arbeiten von Julia Solnier und Stephanie Gschwandtner gab es ein Treffen auf der 2015 Shanghai International Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine, bei der Bauer einen Plenarvortrag zum Thema „How gut microbiota contribute to the activity of Chinese medicine“ gehalten hat. Die beiden jungen Nachwuchswissenschafterinnen konnten sich bei den Vorträgen hochkarätiger internationaler WissenschafterInnen einen Eindruck vom Stand der modernen TCM Forschung verschaffen.
