Anreizsystem für Frauenförderung

Gleichstellung an der Universität Graz wird belohnt

Die Karl-Franzens-Universität setzt auf eine ganze Palette von Gleichstellungsinterventionen. „Ihr Aktivitätslevel in Sachen Gleichstellung ist sehr entwickelt und sicher über dem österreichischen Durchschnitt anzusiedeln“, weiß Dr. Barbara Hey von der Koordinationsstelle für Geschlechterstudien, Frauenforschung und Frauenförderung. Mit einem Policy-Mix setzt die Uni Graz auf sämtlichen Ebenen der Organisationsstruktur und bei allen MitarbeiterInnen an. Eine der Maßnahmen ist das Anreizsystem für Frauenförderung, in dessen Rahmen jene Wissenschaftszweige ausgezeichnet werden, die die besten Einstiegs- und Aufstiegschancen für Frauen an der Universität Graz bieten.

Den ersten Platz konnte sich heuer die Psychologie sichern, auf dem zweiten Platz folgten die Erziehungswissenschaften und den dritten Platz erreichte die Soziologie. Beim feierlichen Akt am 7. Juni 2016 nahmen Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Arendasy, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Barbara Gasteiger-Klicpera und Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stephan Moebius als VertreterInnen ihrer Disziplinen die Auszeichnung von Vizerektorin Renate Dworczak, zuständig für Personal, Personalentwicklung und Gleichstellung, entgegen.

Insgesamt wurden 10.000 Euro vergeben, die wieder – so die Empfehlung der Vorsitzenden des Arbeitskreises für Gleichbehandlungsfragen, Ao.-Prof. Dr. Maria Elisabeth Aigner, – in die Nachwuchsförderung fließen sollen. Der Nachwuchs ist eine zentrale Variable des Anreizsystems, bei dem Einstiegs- sowie Aufstiegschancenindex als Bewertungsinstrumente herangezogen werden. Der Einstiegschancen-Index ist der Frauenanteil unter NachwuchswissenschafterInnen in Relation zum Frauenanteil unter den Studierenden. Als Nachwuchs gelten AssistentInnen und ProjektmitarbeiterInnen in den ersten sechs Jahren, als Studierende das Potential der Erstsemestrigen. Der Aufstiegschancen-Index ist der Frauenanteil unter Habilitierten in Relation zum Frauenanteil unter den NachwuchswissenschafterInnen. Habilitierte sind ProfessorInnen und Habilitierte, als Nachwuchs gelten AssistentInnen und ProjektmitarbeiterInnen in den ersten vier Jahren.

Vizerektorin Dworczak erläuterte außerdem die Aufteilung jenes Budgetanteils in der Gesamthöhe von einer Million Euro, der mittels Gleichstellungindikatoren an die Wissenschaftszweige vergeben wird, die sogenannte Gleichstellungsmillion. Als Indikatoren dafür werden die Frauenanteile bei Neuberufenen, ProfessorInnen, Habilitierten und QV-Stellen sowie die Anzahl von LV-Stunden aus dem Bereich Genderstudies herangezogen.

Die Veranstaltung wurde von Prof. Dr. Hande Birkalan-Gedik von der Yeditepe Universität Istanbul, derzeit Aigner-Rollet Gastprofessorin für Geschlechterforschung an der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät, mit einem Vortrag mit dem Titel „Masculinity and Fatherhood Among Men with Turkish Migration History in Germany“ eröffnet. Darin beleuchtete sie brisante Themen wie Männlichkeit, Migration, Islam, Türkei und Europa aus der Perspektive der Genderstudies.

Rescue and risks: Researchers have surveyed public perceptions of AI

The use of artificial intelligence has had to be made transparent since 2 August 2026. The EU’s AI Act, which has been in force since then, also sets out how risky an application is and which security measures apply as a result. However, the assessment of risks by the legislation differs in some cases significantly from the perceptions of the Austrian public. This is the finding of a representative study carried out by data scientist Stefan Thalmann from the University of Graz and his team.

The Healing Sea: Researchers discover new approaches to treating chronic inflammation in sponges

Chronic inflammation plays a key role in many diseases, ranging from metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to tissue damage following injuries or infections. “Normally, the body is able to resolve inflammation on its own. If this process becomes unbalanced, immune cells remain permanently active and continue to drive negative changes in the tissue,” explains Andreas Koeberle, a pharmacist at the University of Graz.
