Entry to the bachelor’s programme in Molecular Biology is selective and you will need to complete the admission process. If no admission examination is held, you will need to provide proof of a qualification in biology or in biology combined with other subjects (4 hours per week in the sixth form or supplementary examination).
The admission process takes place only once a year, for enrolment in the winter and summer semesters of the relevant academic year.
Molecular Biology at the University of Graz
During the orientation period you will have the chance to take a preliminary look at all the basic content of the bachelor’s programme, to help you make your own choices. The core subject areas are microbiology and cell biology, molecular biology and genetics, and biochemistry and biotechnology.
Your options in the master’s programme
The master’s programmes in Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Molecular Microbiology build directly on the bachelor’s programme, extending and enhancing your expertise in one of these three fields. At the University of Graz you also have the option of interdisciplinary master’s programmes and joint programmes, allowing further scope for individualised and specialised learning.

The bachelor’s programme provides a good grounding in molecular biology which will enable you to work in various fields in the molecular and technical life sciences. Possible areas of employment include the food industry, biotechnology, molecular biological analysis and medical diagnostics, environmental analysis, agricultural and environmental sciences, ecology, private environmental agencies, and research at universities and scientific institutes or in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
