Interests that are a good basis for this study programme
To have fun on the study programme, you should be interested in various languages and in language itself. You should also enjoy encountering different cultures, different ways of thinking and different behaviours.
Linguistics at the University of Graz
The main content of the study programme includes phonology, grammar, speech development, and language and society. As well as learning to speak and understand a language fluently, you will also gain an insight into how various languages are structured. This will give you an understanding of what the possibilities for human communication are and what that says about how we think.
Master’s programme in Linguistics
The master’s programme in Linguistics builds directly on the bachelor’s programme, broadening and intensifying the knowledge and skills already acquired. At the University of Graz you also have the option of interdisciplinary master’s programmes and joint programmes, allowing further scope for individualised and specialised learning.
Preparation for a wide range of career paths
As a graduate, you will be able to work in areas closely linked to language and communication. Depending on your specialisation and additional qualifications, these could include career paths in general education (foreign language teaching, German as a foreign language, adult education), libraries, archives and documentation, healthcare, the media, public administration and international organisations as well as the service sector (HR development, PR, language standardisation and planning) or industry (language and communication technology).
