Uni Vibes - the festival that transcends borders

Universities make a significant contribution to culture, to the interpretation of society and to human existence. We want to celebrate that! With "Uni Vibes - the festival that transcends borders" on 23 May 2025 from 6 pm on the campus of the University of Graz. In collaboration with La Strada Graz, numerous artists and academics will approach the topic of borders from different perspectives and invite visitors to join them on a journey of discovery. Guided tours behind the scenes of the university, concerts, DJs and performances make the evening a special experience. "Uni Vibes" takes place whatever the weather! Admission is free.

The University of Graz is not only the leading educational and research institution in the south of Austria, it is also a meeting place with its green campus in the heart of Graz. "Education, research and social interaction as well as the will to make a difference together are uniquely combined here," says Rector Peter Riedler. Especially at a time when basic democratic values are coming under increasing pressure in this world, when facts and diversity are being questioned more and more often, the University of Graz is clearly committed to its responsibility as a place of free science, as a space for critical thinking and as a platform for social dialogue.

With Uni Vibes, the festival that transcends borders, the University of Graz is once again expressing this attitude publicly, visibly and tangibly and, above all, with confidence. On 23 May, the university campus will be transformed into a stage for art, science, music and dance: "Diversity is not only shown, but celebrated with Uni Vibes," says the Rector. Together with the renowned festival La Strada and the Austrian Students' Union at the University of Graz (ÖH), the University of Graz cordially invites you to attend.

Die Ergebnisse der Studie wurden kürzlich in der Open-Access-Fachzeitschrift „Theranostics“ veröffentlicht.

Climate at the cliffs: Researchers unravel the evolution of the Greenland ice margin

Vertical ice walls, up to 40 metres high: in "Game of Thrones" they were dramatised as fortifications; during the Cold War, they were studied with great interest. How these imposing walls along Greenland’s 80,000-kilometre-long ice margin formed, how they are evolving, and what impact they have on the climate is not yet fully understood. Researchers from the Universities of Graz and Innsbruck have come one step closer to solving the mystery. The results of their latest study have been published in the journal The Cryosphere.

Achieving climate goals: Researchers highlight need for fair country shares in CO2

As the war in the Middle East is currently reminding us once again, many countries around the world are heavily reliant on oil and gas. Lax climate policy and limited options for removing CO₂ from the atmosphere could cement this dependence for future generations. Scientists at the University of Graz highlight this danger in a new study published in the journal Global Environmental Change. They find that rights to carbon dioxide removal should be distributed across countries just as fairly as emission budgets in order to halt global warming.
