The University of Graz welcomes all first-year students with information and events

How do I register for the courses? Can I use AI in my studies? And how do I get access to affordable sports courses? Questions upon questions, especially in the first semester. The answers can be found at the Welcome Weeks 2024 at the University of Graz. The online sessions start on 2 September, followed by the on-campus program from 23 September.

What set-up for cell phones & co. does the University of Graz offer? How does studying and working work? What is a basic module? The list of online info sessions is long, participation is easy: just click in, listen and ask questions via chat. On site at the university, it is then possible at the information desk in the foyer of the university library from September 23 to 30. The study information service 4students has put together a varied and free program for the Welcome Weeks.

Support and exchange

"Due to the high demand last year, we have greatly expanded the first-generation offer. We want to provide targeted support to all those who are the first in their family to start studying," explain Elisabeth Krauss and Julia Huemer from 4students.
The campus tours and a bike tour through Graz are also likely to be in high demand this year. "The exchange with other first-semester students makes the start into the unknown student life easier," confirms Julia Huemer. There are plenty of opportunities for this at numerous events: the Super Mario tournament on September 24, the games evening on September 25, the clothes swap and the subsequent first semester party on September 26 and much more. Please note: Registration is required for a few events.

Welcome gift at the info brunch

Informative bites and culinary snacks: this perfect combination will be served at the Info Brunch on September 25 and 26 in the Aula in the main building. From 9.30 am, Rector Peter Riedler and Vice-Rectors Catherine Walter-Laager, Mireille van Poppel, Joachim Reidl and Markus Fallenböck will welcome all new students with a welcome gift. Experts will be on hand until 12 noon to answer questions about accommodation, semesters abroad, study grants, language courses and much more. And to remember the start of university, there is a snapshot in the photo box.

Chemical Christmas show at the University of Graz: An explosive evening at the Schauspielh

At the beginning of December, the University of Graz transformed the theater into a laboratory: as part of “Chemical Life,” teacher training students staged a chemical Christmas show for Styrian school classes—complete with ethanol rockets, nitrogen snow, and glowing effects. An evening designed to inspire interest in studying chemistry.

Train by train: Koralm railway accelerates exchange between the Universities

Lectures at the University of Klagenfurt in the morning, seminars at the University of Graz in the afternoon: Austria's longest tunnel and a journey time of around 45 minutes make it easy. The Koralm railway increases the speed of networking between the two university locations. The collaboration builds on existing cooperation - for example in the areas of teacher training, Slavic studies and as employers, the universities are well coordinated.
